Rebuilding questions on 302w
Hello, I'm new at this website forum, so here goes: I have a 1977 Ford F150 Ranger Xlt 2WD that has the original 302W engine, C4 automatic tranny, and 9" rear axle. Now it has been sitting for several years since my dear old ma towed it from Arizona to WV. She wanted to rebuild/recondition the truck but never had the time to. So, I wanted to surprise her. It has only 29588.8 miles on the odo. The first thing I wondered is the engine itself, if I should replace all parts as original or upgrade to a better parts like Edelbrock carb 500 cfm ( she prefers Edelbrock over Holly) Edelbrock performer intake manifold, Edelbrock valve gaskets, aluminium radiator, Edelbrock water pump, DUI distributor, hedman headers, flowmaster exhaust, powermaster 140 or 200 amp alternator, powermaster starter (OEM or a step up from OEM). I do t know if I should upgrade to serpentine belt or leave it as a v belt (it got 3 drive belts). To my surprise, I found another 302W engine block sitting in storage for a long time that just needed to be de-rusted and cleaned. No cracks wherever. The casting shows D2OE-6015-AB, 2E19, which means it's a 1972 block for Ford Torino/Fairlane, 2-bolt Mains. The casting block on the truck is D4DE-6015-AA, which is a 1974 block 2-bolt mains. I thought I would use the 1972 block to try it on the truck with the upgrades and see what happens. I also came across 2 boxes for the engine that's been sitting in the storage garage. The first box is a Roadrunner MRC Engine Master kit #M5077, dated 1993. In it has: McCord Gaskets #95-1176, Clevite Timing Chain #3004, Fel-Pro Sealer Set #EIS 70, Sealed Power Quality Piston Ring Set #E-251X .030, Pioneer short block plugs # PE-108-R, Rear Main Bearing split seal # P017015, Roller tappets (I think) # 16-HL1900, Dura-Bond Precision camshaft bearings #F-18, L&B Engine parts oil pump #6-25, Melling automotive products #IS-68, Roadrunner reground camshaft MRC #53-7575, Silv-O-Lite 8 cylinder heads #8-1157 +.030. The second box has a crankshaft from Roadrunner MRC forged stock #C5468, forging #2M, Michigan77 mains #MS-590 P-30 and Michigan77 rods #CB-634P.030. it was for a bore size .030. some of the metal parts has a little rust on them. I thought I could use both boxes after I clean up the rusts. What's your take on these?
