1951 Ford f1 Build
Just picked up this 1951 Ford F1 basket case! done a bit of work on it so far but here's the progress!
It's going to have a flat bed made to fit 2 motorcycles side by side, the motor i will put in it is an '06 LQ4 or maybe an LM7 i have laying around. I've got fantasies of a turbo... Going to build a box tube frame with '89 corvette suspension up front and a ford 9" in the rear with a triangulated 4 link set up. not sure which trans will go in it yet, but i'll let my available funds decide that later haha. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...e82055fc8c.jpg The Rear wheels on the Ford were locking up the whole way home! haha https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...6f968c0bb9.jpg Managed to get it in the garage with about 6 people as the rear wheels would not let go! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...49d63e67c5.jpg and begins the strip tease... https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...262fb52123.jpg Made a wooden frame to support the cab by the corners https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c4c0c3ebaf.jpg as to be expected the corners are all rotted out https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...03231b405e.jpg inner structure for the driver's side corner and body mounts all formed https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...f8d1762f29.jpg Passengers side welded in. I was a bit smarter with weld placement and warpage was much more manageable |
Nice progress and thanks for the pictures, I`m envious of your skills!

Great work, as we're both getting projects started, I'll be watching yours closely for anything I can learn.

Hey Travis,
Your cab looks very familiar to our starting point - nice work. Are you making your own parts? What is your vision for the Tube Frame up front? I always liked the look of a spotlight, cab roof lights, or a visor … just for fun. Looking good in New York! Ben in Austin 1950 F1 |

Travis,
I agree that your body work looks very good! Thanks for posting the pictures of your truck build! Regards, Chris |
Unless you use a flat out or similar cross member the vette is quite wide even for a 53 + limiting wheel choices .

Update #3
Made a bit more progress on the rear of the cab. Floor is coming soon! (that back section of the cab will get fixed once it is mounted to the frame)

Or maybe after it's running... ;) |
