1951 Ford f1 Build

Just picked up this 1951 Ford F1 basket case! done a bit of work on it so far but here's the progress!

It's going to have a flat bed made to fit 2 motorcycles side by side, the motor i will put in it is an '06 LQ4 or maybe an LM7 i have laying around. I've got fantasies of a turbo... Going to build a box tube frame with '89 corvette suspension up front and a ford 9" in the rear with a triangulated 4 link set up. not sure which trans will go in it yet, but i'll let my available funds decide that later haha.

The Rear wheels on the Ford were locking up the whole way home! haha

Managed to get it in the garage with about 6 people as the rear wheels would not let go!

and begins the strip tease...

Made a wooden frame to support the cab by the corners
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...c4c0c3ebaf.jpg
as to be expected the corners are all rotted out

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...03231b405e.jpg
inner structure for the driver's side corner and body mounts all formed

Passengers side welded in. I was a bit smarter with weld placement and warpage was much more manageable

Hey Travis,
Your cab looks very familiar to our starting point - nice work. Are you making your own parts?
What is your vision for the Tube Frame up front? I always liked the look of a spotlight, cab roof lights,
or a visor … just for fun.

Looking good in New York!

Thank you! Yes these parts are all made from scratch. The frame is going to be a box tube frame, nothing too crazy, but made to fit the cab with corvette suspension and i want the running boards to sit 4" off the ground so the frame will be notched to set the ride height. The visor is a must have!

Unless you use a flat out or similar cross member the vette is quite wide even for a 53 + limiting wheel choices .

The Corvette suspension is 60" hub to hub which is exactly the same hub to hub dimension as the original front end. I wont run into this issue here with the '51

Update #3

Made a bit more progress on the rear of the cab. Floor is coming soon! (that back section of the cab will get fixed once it is mounted to the frame)

The back section was coated with tar or something from the previous owner and will get replaced after the cab is mounted to the frame! Or maybe after it's running... ;)

Thank you, greg! You gotta have atleast one (or two or three) mills in the shop! The white one is a pc based cnc and then the trusty ol bridgport.
