Droopy Aftermarket Sun Visors - Ideas
Bought a pair of the reproduction sun visors for my 79 since the originals were toasted and crispy. I also bought the new pins and installed them in the ends of the visors. Slid them over the long pin pivots and the visors will not stay up even after having the end pins inserted in the center support. Anyone have a solution to this? Thanks. |

The ends of the visor rods (04114 in pic) have rubber tips on them (04115) that fit into the center bracket (04132) to keep them from drooping. maybe the rods have lost some of the bend at the mounting brackets, put a wrench on the rod and slide it down to the curve and mount the rod in a vice, use wrench to put more bend in the curve, don't get carried away with re arcing the curve/bend.

Who/where did you get your repops from? Unfortunately you might have to get some better repops. Does the visor itself just fall back down in the "sun block" position? Like the visor vinyl body just spins on the outer rod? Look for a small chrome metal piece clamped on the inner and outer edge to be crimping enough material and making tension on the rod, so to speak.
As a fix you might be able to inject some two part epoxy inside where the rods insert? And glue the visor body to the rods? Its getto but might work. lol |
The fix that finally worked for me (with originals) was to place the backbone area of the visor that goes over the rod into a padded vice and squeeze it a bit. I almost overdid it and really had to work to get it back on the pin. I really don't know if there is some kind of spring clip inside or if it's just a plastic board, but it's been holding up well. The test will be this summer when it gets hot.........

The visor itself is just a really thick cardboard. On my old '82 Mustang GT, the visors would swing back into the position to block sun through the door windows, due to acceleration. I think I spread the springs or shimmed them up, to keep the visors oriented to the windshield.
