Grandad's 68 f100 build
Started my build recently. Started out as a bone stock, 68 360 f100 LB. This was the only new car my grand parents ever owned. My dad had done some upkeep and a few resto's.
The plan: Swap front end with CV DIsc all around Refresh rear end currently 9" 3.50 Lower rear stance Gut interior and clean, dynamat top to bottom New headliner and visors New old look stereo New dash cover Tilt wheel Ditch the 3 speed manual, TCI Streefighter combo C6 to replace it Powerplant: 416 Stroker- 390 w 428 crank S Code intake manifold for 4 barrel Holley 268h comp cam kit WIndage tray HV oil system HiFire Pertronix distributor https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4830/...0b3848d1e6.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4870/...f66ed09113.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4917/...3eec9d5c24.jpg Block coming back from machine shop. 428 CJ crank balanced, prepped and polished https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7819/...df342172e1.jpg Needed to add a brace to the cheapo harbor freight stand. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4916/...e03715bb3a.jpg Also added a set of large casters so I could move this pig around easier https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7868/...0721ee9575.jpg Mockup https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7914/...a6950e1a3b.jpg Original heads rebuilt, seats and guides installed https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7863/...d7c37505d4.jpg Went with Eagle H-beam connecting rods https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7821/...18798164b8.jpg Silvolite dished pistons should give around 9.7:1 with an 041 gasket https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7833/...655d081223.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7893/...0e37a320f5.jpg Degee-ing cam https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4831/...8bb92cb293.jpg Did not have to do any clearance work https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7924/...8ba1809278.jpg Going with the earlier larger thermostat ]https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4891/...4b6009786a.jpg That's it for now. I already have the front end stripped, rear end reset with lowering kit. Waiting on some free time to grab a CV donor.. |
Awesome! It's a lot of fun to build an engine like that. It's going to turn out great.

Never got a chance to do a total build like that. I am sure it will be an awesome feeling of satisfaction when it is done. :-jammin

Then it's on the chassis |
Thanks for sharing your build. Fun! Even if only vicariously experienced.

Looking good so far. :)

Digging out the old seam sealer. Most of it was rotted away.

Had to get the axle flanges turned to 6.25 for the rotors https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7806/...1f2bc47178.jpg New brake lines https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4916/...084a8fb1bb.jpg |
Is Grand dad still around to see this?

That is too bad. But you can keep the legacy going.

Making slow progress on the cv front frame work.
Sleeved with chrome moly tube, plated lower frame rail, ground flat and getting ready for upper rail plates. Re-worked trailing arm bushings too. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7810/...2dfeeef5a7.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4855/...942812a7db.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4830/...c9b6662506.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7808/...23206e81de.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7824/...fd82a99fde.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7916/...f8d526d3db.jpg Lot's of cleanup work to do yet and paint of course. |
Looking good.
