Front brake rotors
2001 F350 4X4 crew cab DRW 7.3
need to change brakes and rotors, I want to upgrade to drilled and slotted rotors. I have looked at new rotors online and have only been able to find rotors with the dually extension cast to the rotor, since my truck has a removable extension. Can a rotor from a SRW rotor be used and extension but back on? |
I have no idea on the extension. I've been told that if you tow you don't want drilled rotors as they tend to crack.
|
Powerstop Z36 are made for towing and they are drill (with beveled edges) and slotted and have great results/reviews.
I've got them on mine and love them. I've been told a lot of things and many have been wrong. |
I've seen pictures of drilled rotors with cracks radiating out from the holes. It does happen. A quick Google search shows plenty of these. Here's an article on it: Performance Brake Blog - Why Drilled Brake Rotors Crack | Cquence.net. The beveled edges should help.
EBC doesn't provide any cross drilled rotors: https://ebcbrakes.com/articles/dange...rilled-rotors/ |
Thanks for the info on the slotted/drilled rotors, will read this thoroughly before purchasing.
my real question is, will a SRW front disc brake rotor work on a dually truck with the OE bolt on extension. I do not like the looks of the one piece rotor and extension Thanks |
Are you sure the extension hub is cast with the rotor? The rotors I got from Rock Auto included the hub assembly, but it wasn’t cast as part of the rotor. It is a two piece assembly, pressed together at the suppliers assembly plant, probably to control runout. |

Put a chisel or similar at the joint and "persuade it" into the joint with the BFH. They should come apart fairly easily. If yours are NOT like mine, well - then nevermind :) |

Well, thanks for all the responses. FYI I bought a rotor from Carquest,# YH145274P fit perfectly, for a SRW

@351Cleveland C4 , outer bolt flange is rotated 1/2 bolt hole from inner,no difference in bolt circle/dia. far as I know truck is OEM
|
Go here and order the proper parts, this is also where I bought my Preformace Friction pads

Dually trucks run 8x200mm. Single wheel is 8x170mm. There is a difference.
|
If you look further down the link you can choose the 4x4 option.
