Discontinued accelerator cable
My 2001 Navigator has a frayed accelerator cable. The part is xL7z*9a758*AA which has been discontinued. The 2001 expedition cable is xL1z*9a758*EA and the dealer referred me to do an internet search? Any experience with a substitute cable? Thanks

any of the major auto parts stores should be able to get one for you...another option is to pull your current cable out (just the cable) and visit a local motorcycle shop...they will have a variety of cables sitting at their store for "universal" applications....

I wish it were that easy. That was the same part that the dealer had, but said they were not sure it would fit. The link given above says it does not fit the 2001 Navigator, as this is the cable for the 2001 Expedition. I have been busy at work this week, I think I will remove the old cable and take it to Autozone or such. I should have a better idea after I remove it. Thanks .

These people seem to have a used one for $15.

Definitely a good idea to take your old one with you for comparison. |

I think you hit the jackpot. I called them, Greear's Used Parts and they were very nice, correct part and they are sending it to me for $20. After I took mine out I was not real excited about going to a local Pull a Part and doing that again. Thanks.

The 2001 expedition cable is XL7Z-9A758-EA and the dealer referred me to do an internet search?* Any experience with a substitute cable? About 25% of the US FoMoCo dealers are listed on PartsVoice as are the obsolete parts vendors. rearcounter has one Ford dealer and some of the obsolete parts vendors listed. ANYONE can access these two sites. But when you type part numbers on these two sites, REMOVE any spaces or hyphens, type 'em like this: XL7Z9A758AA *Did the partsguy at the dealer look on the Ford D2D (Dealer to Dealer-FoMoCo Dealer Parts Locator System) to see if anyone had any? As usual, probably not. :( If you found a number on the cable, it is NOT the part number! It's the ID engineering number. Dealers can cross ID engineering numbers over to Ford part numbers. |
