How to Flip Bed Over
Any suggestions on how to flip bed upside down or on end for repairs and refinishing? The last time we hoisted one up and placed tall horses under it. Worked but tough working overhead. It is on trailer with horses now.

Four strong backs works best, but I did it with three.:o Built a cart to wheel it around, work on it, then paint it.

I used a cherry picker and straps. Please see:

X2 on a couple of extra hands..
1. Remove the tailgate. Have a stack of pallets or tires to have it rest on once its upside down. The stack will be just forward as the bed sets, before you flip it over. 2. Set it down/balanced flat/normal on a single stack of pallets (with the pallets in the middle) and tall enough to be able to get a car tire/small lawn mower tire under each fwd corner for protection. 3. Using a old tire on each fwd edge corner to protect the corners. 4. Lift the bed from the tailgate end and roll it up on the cab facing end (header panel) then roll it right on over. Making sure it as flat or as even on both sides where the bottom fwd corners contact the tires. Make sense? Having a extra set of hands on each fenderwell as it rolls makes it way easier. |
Any ideas on doing a cab. I am one guy WITH a cherry picker. I would like to flip the cab onto its back so I can do repair work on the floor. Dash and steering wheel are still in it.

Five or six able bodied persons + two saw horses + 2x4s + pizza + beer = job done.

Sure just set it on a pallet or 2 so all the weight is NOT on the corners, when you tip it back. If you have a old mattress to lay it back on even better.

There was interesting post and string started by applebaggins 10-13-17, maybe you can search it? |
I am 1 man rebuilding my truck so you have to get creative at times.
I am using the bed floor only to replace the wood floor on my 81 F100 flare side. Used the picker to get it off the parts truck and on horses http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...016_092727.jpg http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...016_122935.jpg I used straps hung from the rafters http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...028_084423.jpg http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...028_112716.jpg

I then undid the cab bolts and got horses close to each rocker. I was able to lift the cab 1 side at a time and push a horse under a rocker. Once the cab was off the frame I pull the rear axle so I could pull the frame out from under the cab. http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...227_153435.jpg http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...229_175939.jpg I did have to move the horses to replace the floors. rockers, door posts and cab corners. http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...109_185203.jpg http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...320_171647.jpg Bottom was also coated before I got it back on the frame. http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...422_162148.jpg As you can see the rear axle is not in place so it would fit between the horses. http://cars.grantskingdom.com/var/re...426_174839.jpg Just take your time and if you can get help so you don't get hurt. Wife did help me get it back on the frame so the bolts would drop in. Dave ---- ps There is a post of making a bracket from wood to fit on the end of the picker and it would fit inside the cab roof from door to door. I think there is a post of this on FTE but cant remember what area. |
