Oil pan 84 4wd

Hello. This is my first post here. I like the site a lot, lots of good information.

I've looked for an answer but I can' really find a clear answer. I have a 1984 4wd f150. That I'm installing a replacement 300 in it. The replacemnt motor came from a 76 2wd f100 it has a mid sump pan on it. Will the mid sump pan work on the 4wd. I know a front sump won't but will a mid sump work?

When I switched mine I just changed the pan and oil pickup. Just make sure you will be able to check your oil. You won't be able to use your original dipstick.

Hi F'n Ford, and welcome to the forums. Yes, lots and lots of good info here. Most everything anyone can think of to do has been done before, and discussed.

With the pan, no, you'll need a rear sump pan for your 300 to fit into the '84. The 4wd TTB front axle takes up a bit of room and the rear sump pan barely clears it as is, so a mid sump will hit the axle.

Dorman makes a replacement oil pan which works really well. I've used two of them. However, on both of them, I had to lengthen the bolt holes on the front of the pan since they're about a 1/4 of an inch off. Otherwise, great fit.

Just note that they don't have the raised ridges around the bolt holes, so you'll need the blue silicone gasket from an '89+ 300, which is a vastly better gasket anyway so... win win.

Thanks for the replies. I have my oil pan and rear sump from my motor I'm pulling but I won't have a dipstick. The engine in mine is an efi block. So my oil pan doesn' have a dipstick. So I guess I'll being going to the local pull a part to find one. Thanks guys!

I found the proper oil pan. Does anyone know where I can find a dipstick for a 1980 oil pan. Has to be the kind mounted on the oil pan

The dipstick itself I believe you can still buy new. However, the tube that threads into the oil pan is a different story. Junk yard or ebay maybe.

Did you find your oil pan in the junk yard and it didn't have a dipstick tube attached?

Someone already got the dipstick off of it
