2015/2016 6R140 auto transmission interchange

Going through my books and it shows that starting in 2015 the 6R140 transmission found in F250 and F350 Super Duty's interchange (minus the convertor) between the 6.2 gas and the 6.7 diesel engines. Seems odd. Can anyone confirm?

Seems like the bolt pattern to block is different. Maybe someone will chime in to verify that.

A dual pattern case maybe?

Not aware of Ford ever having a dual pattern case for any transmission.

I don't know for certain, but when I was at Ford (until 2007) they had standardized the bolt patterns. I do know for certain that the 6.0L/6.4L had the same bolt pattern as the 5.4L/6.8L gas engines. I wouldn't expect that they changed that with the 62.L and 6.7L. Creating a new bolt pattern costs millions in tooling. It's WAY cheaper to have one bolt pattern.

I would expect that the internals are different, such as different clutch plate counts in some of the clutches due to the very different torque inputs.
