2015 F-250 with 6r140 Transmission
I have 13 K miles on my truck. While pulling my Travel trailer up a hill the transmission kicks down thru the gears, which is fine, but as I crest the hill and in 2nd gear, the engine begins to rev up and the speed increases, the transmission will not automatically go into 3rd gear. I have tried to let up on the gas pedal, but it remains stuck in 2nd gear. I have to shift to manual and then put it in 3rd gear. Then it shifts up as it should. I have tried with the transmission in "TOW' and not in "TOW". I have even tried it in “Cruise Control”.
Ford dealership ran tests but could find no problem. However it was road tested without the trailer. Any thought? Thanks |
I've experienced a couple of slow upshifts in my F-350. Pressing the accelerator to gain 500 engine RPM didn't work. A couple of times I disabled tow mode and it shifted right away.

I've had mine do that but only in cruise control. If it crests a hill in a downshifted gear, it won't upshift again. I take it out of cruise and shift manually, then all is well. A bug in the PCM?

I've noticed the same. Occasionally when using tow/haul with the exhaust brake engaged while descending a hill, after reaching a safe point and the need to accelerate is reached the trans will not up shift. Disengaging tow/haul will allow the up shift then I reengage tow/haul. Is this an issue that can be fixed with a flash? For now its just a minor annoyance.

Me too. Like you're stuck in second.
Only happens when towing. |
I recall another thread where shifted weird that was "fixed" by clearing the learned shifting strategy. If you disconnect power in these will it then kick into a new learning cycle again or do they have to be cleared?
