Hitch height set up advice needed...
 

So I acquired a really nice cobra sandpiper 5'er trailer built in 93. I didn't like the lack of side to side articulation that the hitch that came with the trailer was lacking. I purchased a very nice used Husky 16000 lb hitch with the full articulating head and installed it this evening. My question is how high above the top of the bed should the trailer be to insure that the trailer doesn't kiss the top of my bed sides with the side articulation?

The truck is a 2001 7.3 f350 Sduty cc 8' bed with a leveling kit just installed. I'm thinking I will have to flip the trailer axles before going to far. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

5 to 6" above the rail should do it.

Agree, but I think it is easier to use Lippert Correct Track kit, which will give you an extra 2" of lift if you need it along with opportunity to check you shackles for wear while you have things apart. :)

Hopefully his shackle pins are lubeable or their probably ready for replacement. My non-lubeales were pretty much shot by 30,000 miles.

I think it is unlikely they can be lubed. :(

I consider 6" to be minimum. In various places I've seen 5" stated as being acceptable, but in the real world it'll probably get you in a bind, literally.

Lubeable pins and shackles with bronze bushing can be had for under 50 per axle. Cost me just under a 100 for everything on a tandem 5er. Moryde is the brand you want.
