Amp power running board question

For those of you that have them installed. How much rise is there between the foot pad of the running board and the inside of you truck?

I never measured it but it is extremely comfortable whether your 5'4" or 6'4" my 90 year old mom was even able to get into my ex...

FYI....Had them done at speed and truck world in Fort Lauderdale.
Here is an old pic from when I had it done...

Yeah my concern was my 87y/o grandmother being able to get in and out. She uses a cane and is able to get in now with a step stool and the factory running board. I just want to do away with that plastic tan running board. Thanks

It's much easier with the amps, there is no question in my mind...
Mother inlaw is 87 my mom is 91 and uses a walker.

I used a step stool than on to the non slip of the amps, much easier! ;)

im having mine installed this weekend. i cant wait!

How much were you quoted for the install?

They have two options on wiring.

One is sending trigger wires to all doors, the other is a harness that plugs into obd2.

If you run a programmer or other device that uses that you'll need a splitter. Sone have had mixed success with those splitters.

LL do you recall how yours was?

A friend of mine is doing the wiring. I wanted them tied to my alarm along with the door handles, adding a bunch of led strips for puddle lights and a bypass switch. He's also hooking up my two 50" led bars and my 40" back up bar. I anticipate a couple hundred bucks. He is not using the obd2.

I've installed quite a few of these on our trucks.

The obd2 is waaaay quicker but if I pull the trigger on them I'll probably hardwire as well.

Interesting thread as I too have been considering these for my Ex.

I've never seen the OBD option available for the Excursions...where do you guys see that?

I'm positive I talked with them on the phone about it. Call their techline on Monday.

Matt M, PA 05-16-2016 10:22 AM

I called Amp Research's tech line. There is NO OBD hook-up for Excursions. The support for the OBD port connection started with SDs in 2008...

I don't know about the AMPs because I have the Bestop version, but wiring them into the door switch is pretty simple, the wires are right under the plastic door sill that just snaps in place.

I'm sorry for the wrong info.
I'm positive they had told me there was but I could be wrong, or the tech was wrong.

I guess we don't have to worry about obd2 splitters now!

Thanks for clearing that up.

Joe
