93 f250 rear main seal replacement
Hey guys on my 93 f250 the rear main needs replaced. It has the 5.8 windsor with a 5 speed manual. My question about the whole this is when I remove the pressure plate and cover assembly am I goin to have to bleed the clutch when its all back together. Helped a buddy do a rear main but the engine was outa the pickup.

Yes you have to bleed the clutch when it's all back together, but I would consider that the easy part of the whole job.
|
Never have messed with the clutch or a manual transmission. So it will be a new experience. On my 6.0 psd I had the motor apart on that more than once. But never a transmission or a clutch.

Is there a good right up that anyone has.

It's the easiest hydraulic setup to bleed....there's a bleeder screw on the slave cylinder, have a buddy pump the clutch pedal just the way you would when bleeding brakes. Pump pedal, hold pedal to floor, crack screw, tighten screw, repeat.
You can technically pull the trans back far enough to work on the clutch/seal but that's honestly more trouble than its worth. |
Sweet. One more thing I was gonna flush the engine with gunk out or whatever its called. The engine is extremely dirty inside. Ive had the truck since October and have changed the oil 4 times. Dip stick still has grit on it.

I wouldn't use any type of flush.
Just use a conventional motor oil and replace 1 quart with MMO and drive for several hundred miles. Repeat. I usually just swap the filter and repeat. Did this to my new to '95, 302. Did it 3 times and it's just now looking clean on the dipstick. Or switch to a diesel rated oil, Rotella or Delo and do the same. Diesel rated oil has more detergents. Only other way to get it clean is to pull and strip it.... |
