1996 F150 wiring

Under the dash near the steering wheel, there is a bundle of wires going up, and I would like to know which one is hot and which one is ground so I can tap a CB radio into it. If anyone could tell me, I would appreciate it!

can't answer your question, but I would just tap into the fuse box, either at a hot fuse, or an accessory fuse, depending on your preference. cig lighter is hot all the time if you want to go that route.

ground is almost any metal surface you can find under there.

I'm using a cig lighter port into the "Power Point" not the ashtray lighter.
At some point when I work up the cajones to clean up the wiring for the auxiliary stuff (Lightbar, headlight relays, etc.) I'll run a dedicated power for it to get a cleaner voltage.

If I tap into the cigarette lighter, won't the CB always be on? I want the CB to only be on when the key is on

If you are talking about the wires going into the Ignition switch on top of the column, under the dash down near the floor board then:

Wire A1 (297) a black wire with a light green stripe is the power you are looking for wire.
Wire GND (57) a black wire is ground.

Okay, so with that BLK/LG wire, it would only be on when the ignition is on. Yes?

Yes and in both the ACC and the run position of the ignition key tumbler. But not in the start, lock or off position of the ignition key tumbler.

I ran my wires to a plug, that plugged into the power point, I can plug/unplug at my leisure and haven't cut open the factory harness as that can turn into trouble if not done properly *Cough*PO of my truck*Cough*
