Ford 226 Ground strap location cab to Bell housing?
Hi Guys,
I know this has been covered before but I cannot locate the thread, spent last 45 minutes looking for it. Where is the original location for the ground strap located at the back of the engine???? Original location for a 49 Ford with 226 H. How long is this strap?? Thanks in advance! |
This strap is an original and is exactly 15" end to end.

The attachment point is on the head. My battery posts were reversed making the cable too short.

Thanks for all the pics.
Is there a ground strap that is located at the back of the engine that goes to the cab or frame? |
I haven't seen one on any 226 f1 that I have looked at personally and the 6cyl wiring diagram doesn't show one.

The parts book lists 8rc-303-b engine to ground 8 1/4 long but it's only on the v8's.

Ok Great!
That answers my question. I always thought that the 226 also came stock with a ground strap at the back of the block. Thank you! |
Hey guys my ground strap is 15 1/2 inches long, but won't reach the back of the block, am I missing something? When removed a few years ago it was attached at the coil bracket which I understand is incorrect...?!?

As I found, the physical locations for the battery posts has been reversed over time. This puts the postive terminal away from the firewall and too long a reach for the stock cable. The alternatives were to find a battery with the legacy post configuration - I'm sure they could be found - or get a longer cable for the positive terminal to head connection. I opted for the longer cable.
