Truck Died! Going down the road?
I was smiling:), driving down the road, headed to Colorado to go elk hunting. Then Bang! Or, no bang! I mean. The motor died like the fuel was shut off, in my 95 f350 diesel. I changed the Fuel tank selector valve before I left. I did pull it off of my 89 diesel. It was working when parked. I let my 95 idle I my yard for well over an hour, no troubles. next morning, got in it heading to Colorado for a good time in the mountains, 10 miles down the road, it dies like the fuel was shut off. Flipping the selector switch did nothing. Both tanks are full. I opened the filter bowl, it is over half full of fuel, with the filter out. I had to get it towed back to my house, stole the wifes F150, and went on to Colorado.
Any ideas? HPOP? I hope not. It has new injectors in it already. |
Does the WTS (wait to start) light still work?
|
Well? I just went to check that, and yes it does work. And the dang thang started! After setting for almost 10 days? Would not even try to hit, 10 days ago. Just spin and spin?

How could I check the fuel pressure and high side and low side? Is that possible without a computer?
|
Best guess is the CPS is bad. Do you know if it has ever been changed? Ford had a recall on them. One of the symptoms is the engine just dies, sometimes it starts right back up and sometimes it doesn't.

There is no way to check it. You can purchase one from Ford for about $27. Don't buy the ones from part stores, they are a crap shoot at best. The new ones are dark gray with a purple o-ring.

The CPS are very common issues. Sometimes they cut out, you hit a bump in the road and they come back on. Sometimes you leave the key off for fifteen minuets and it starts back up. Sometimes they just go completely out.
|
Mine would cut out while on the highway. It would always start back up about 1-2 seconds later. I kept a spare CPS in the glove box for it though. Had to change it in the middle of the road when the truck died in the middle of an intersection, and the truck just wouldnt start back up.

Ok, i'll get one. And put it on.

Cps for the win!

Ive found this to be very helpful. My truck had a UVC wiring harness or glow plug go out while entering the freeway. |
