aFe to RiffRaff filter

Hey just thought I'd share some photo's of the filter conversion from an aFe stage 11 style filter to the RiffRaff 6637 filter kit.https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...cc50455468.jpg

aFe set up , this filter is very small compared to the RiffRaff 6637

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...69269d67b5.jpg

Battery box and air box removed

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...0efaf24773.jpg

This is roughly how i will set the filter up

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...2e6bee47c2.jpg

The original battery / air box i cut in half, and just have the front battery compartment and intake panel.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...fae713b1e7.jpg

Made a new adapter plate for the intake tube to go through, this will bolt to the side of the battery box side panel.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...6765145fec.jpg

This is how the plate looks fitted up , it holds the filter steady.

Fabricating a new bottom for the filter.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...4a7d5d390f.jpg

Spot weld and check for fitment.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...bd3abf1789.jpg

Fit a panel to separate the battery and filter for the battery.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...00b82f943d.jpg

First test fit, had to make some adjustments around the power steering piping.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...5e8d541f03.jpg

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...13698bd3f5.jpg

Filter elbow tack welded to the new intake panel.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...7765cb5211.jpg

Ready for the paint shop.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...7aa656d592.jpg

Painting in progress.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...d78781c64d.jpg

Filter elbow.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...a379f836fd.jpg

First fitment after painting.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...a91e2b2a87.jpg

Side of the new filter box , with the elbow in place and intake tube.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...4f34c9575f.jpg

Ooops forgot the hole for the filter minder, welded in a 1/8'' 316 flat washer so the grommet will fit snug.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...1c8cea097f.jpg

Fitted up , make sure everything is clear , notice i fitted the sensor on the back of the filter box , i did this just because it was there , RR instructions says to cable tie to the wiring loom.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...2818266d30.jpg

Try the filter minder .

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...7c4cfc1f80.jpg

Fitted up and make sure there's clearance all round the filter.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...e76a334724.jpg

I did some research o how the filter minder should be fitted and found that there shouldn't be to much length between the tube and the minder , so this is why i fitted it like this.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...dc836fb68d.jpg

Finished product.

Now for the test run.

Looks awesome mate inspires me to neaten up my mess.what is the other riser pipe and radiator cap for? Power steering extension? Im looking for something similar when I do my Ram Assist and that would be right up my alley.

Blue7.3 03-03-2015 04:42 PM

That other riser is for filling the add on water to oil cooler for the transmission, i had some heating issues with the tranny some time ago so i fitted an extra W/O cooler under the truck.

W/O cooler and 12 volt pump sit on the T/C xmember.<br/>The filler neck is just to keep this topped up.

If your getting high EGT's you will need to look at what chip if any you have and if you possibly have a boost leak.
What turbo have you got GTP38?

Make yourself up a simple boost leak tester out of pvc pipe
then test for leaks, you will need a spray bottle full of soapy water to spray over the ic pipes and basically any where that air from the intake can go.
Have you a chip or tuner?
What wait are you towing?
Fuel pressure?
