FUEL FILTER QUESTION???
I was going to change my fuel filter on my 95 F150 4x4. Again it appears to be original. It is a Motorcraft. Well the question is the outlet side has a metal braided hose & I don't see any clips or a way to disconnect. It looks like the hose is part of the filter but don't see where it might disconnect.
Can someone open my eyes please? Thanks, Craig |
You can buy Motorcraft fuel filters from the parts store.

It should have a quick connect that takes a release tool . They can get full of mud and crap . Sometimes near impossible to remove without damage .

I bought a replacement filter but can't see how the outlet side comes apart. I don't see any clips.

Braided line , larger on the end at the filter ? It takes a release tool . " Clips " are internal . Tool is inserted into fuel line to release connector . ? You have not seen those before ?

Any parts store should have the tool for sale . A butterfly tool is cheep. 2 sizes in one tool .Just ask them for the fuel filter disconnect tool that works for your app. Or you can buy the master kit ! More tools ! I love tools . You will likley need some cleaner and some lube if it has never been changed . They get choked with debris and can be difficult to release . Good luck !:)

You fit the disconnect tool around the line, push the line toward the filter, then push the disconnect tool toward the line. The line should then slip off of the filter inlet/outlet.
I buggered a quick disconnect up today while replacing my fuel filter, but was able to (BARELY) reuse it. I will be getting some extras to carry around in the toolbox. |

Thanks guys. I have decided to let a shop change it since there isn't any place to buy any parts here. I'm so sore & crippled up after yesterday I don't think I could get under the truck & if I did I'm sure I would have to sleep there for a few days.
I appreciate at least I know how it comes apart. I'll buy a couple of extra clips to have in case of an emergency. Thanks for helping me understand the way these work. I have done the 90s Ranger filters They just used the two plastic clips outside. Craig |
