DMV/CHP question
Has anyone ever had to do a Vin replacement in California and if so how difficult was it?
|
I have not had to do that, but why would you ever need to?
I have, however, has to have a (pre-VIN) serial number re-certified. It involves a comprehensive CHP garage inspection, and you can't watch because they look in places that only they seem to know are there. Pop |
A vin replacement? like the vin tag fell off?
|
There's usually a VIN on something somewhere. They will look for those and clear them before they do anything.
Years ago I dealt with a fellow who bought a Corvette in a "no title" state (1963 car). The CHP took a good long time researching several states before giving him a "new" VIN to register the car with. I also knew a guy who couldn't prove up the ownership trail on a motorcycle. They impounded it. Why don't you have a title(s) or VIN(s)? |
Check your other thread:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post12560272 VIN should be stamped on the top of the frame on the passenger side about even with the wheel iirc based on other posts here. Do you have a bill of sale for the cab? As long as the title matches the frame you should be good. Smog has to be OEM. |

Better hope that cab wasn't stolen, as they will likely find a VIN somewhere on it, and "run it".
Then you've got a problem..... Pop |
