fuel pump problem
I have a 97 f250 I replaced the fuel pump a couple weeks ago and it ran fine. Now if you let it set a couple hours it will run about 2 minutes then go dead. Checked it today and it isn't pumping fuel again. Is it likely to get a bad pump or do I have something else going on?

You could have got a bad pump
does it do it on both tanks? Could it be a bad pick tube?
I don't know about both tanks as I rarely use the rear tank and it has little to no fuel in it. If it was the pick up would it work at all? Mine will crank and idle ok for about 2 minutes then shut down like you turned the key off. It won't start back up for a couple of hours.
yeah, I spose not. Are you sure it is fuel related? iIs your bowl empty when it shuts off? Actualy, I am not sure if the bowl goes dry when the pump stops pumping.
Bowl isn't empty just doesn't try to fill anymore with the filter out.
Drain the bowl put the filter and cap back on and crank it to see if the bowl fills up
Ok. I will try that tomorrow. I talked to ford service they said pull the tanks and check for debris clogging a sock? How hard is this to do?
It's easier to pull the bed
Ok. I don't have a cherry picker so this is going to be a job... I think.
You and two buddies can lift the bed
I helped pull the bed on a ranger. Took no time. 6(?) bed bolts, 1 wire harness and 3(?) screws at the filler neck. Can you shoot compressed air back through the tube to avoid pullen the bed/tank?
Have you cleaned the fuel bowl screen? :-huh
:-drink |
Fuel bowl screen?
I would be afraid to do the compressed air.. my luck isn't very good. I would probably break something lol
