Clicking hubs,how do I shut'em up??
 

I got a 1970 250 4x4, or a 1972+ 250 4x4 I can't be sure. The drivers side hub makes a ratchett noise while I'm driving. 4 wheel works and everything but that noise annoys me! What causes it, and how do I fix the noise??

What you didn't state was if the noise was happening in 4wd, 2wd, or both.

If it is the hub assembly, the Warn Premium Hub part# is (according to my book), 9072 and should run you around $150.oo for the replacement kit.

Ive never noticed noise in 4 wheel, but it makes it in 2wheel for sure. 150 ain't bad at all, thanks

It sounds like that the hub isn't totally disengaging.
I can't be positive though, I'm not there to hear it in person.

Many times the reason it clicks is the hub was not put back correctly when it was removed. Usually the spring or cam is not seated correctly.

Totally remove everything down to the clip on the axle, hub, or wheel bearing (not sure what the 250 looks like for that year and if it has a 44 or Dana 60) and reinstall everything.

Usually if it is not installed correctly and it is clicking, the arrows do not like up to where it reads "lock" and "unlock" and you do not get a positive click feel/sound when you unlock the hub (unless it is a Mile Marker, they click when they go in).
