96' Bronco v8-v10 swap?
I have a 1996 Ford Bronco with a 5.8L v8. Im thinking of doing swaping it to a 6.9L v10 gas motor. Will the 6.9 fit under my hood or will it require modifications?

Not to be anal, but the V10 is a 6.8.
If guys can fit them into Mustangs, I dont see any problem fitting it in a Bronc. May need to do a little trimming, but it would be a fun ride. |
slip of the finger typing before work and in a hurry thanks for the correction though.
Now its gunna be fun putting it in the truck :D |
There's a thread already about slipping a V10 in an 89 F150. That should give you some great pointers. Too bad it was consumed in the TX fires.

Subscribed ;)
I had heard when the V10 first came out that one of the reasons they didn't rush to put it into the F-series was that they had to wait for the Superduty redesign to get it to fit. Given that the '96 Bronco is basically an OBS F150 (I believe) engine compartment, you might have some limits that can of course be overcome anyway. If you're going to do this, you either need a manual tranny with the Ford modular engine bellhousing and a manual transmission PCM for the V10, or the entire engine/tranny/transfer case/PCM from a Superduty. If your bronco is a manual, this might be easiest. It might be even better to convert an automatic bronco to a manual one BEFORE this swap. The transfer case fitment issues will make a manual tranny and stock transfer case a bit easier to deal with. |
Why cant i have a auto trans when i swap to the v10?
My dad has a 02' Excursion limited with the v10 in it and he thinks he has the same t-case and trans as my bronco? is this true? Plus if i swap to a v10 im going to take the computer and everything from a donor vehicle and put it in my bronco |

I forgot that the Bronco would have the E4OD in it, so there is a big possibility of using the 4R100 with the V10 and making it all work - I bet there will be SOME difference, but it can be overcome with enough grunt work ;)

Now will the axles in the excursion be better then the ones on my bronco? because on my bronco i have stock Dana44s but swapped gears to detroit 4.10. Is the excursion axle better then that not including the gears?
Ive also read it would be better to take the dash board out of the excursion and put it in the bronco so i have all the same guages. Is this true or could i jus add in a few custom guages? Lastly, any ideas where i can find performance parts for a v10? or get my hands on a junked excursion/f250/350 that still has good motor/drivetrain in it?? |
