Replacing Front Brakes
 

Later tonight I am going to need to change out my front rotors and pads. This is the first time that I will have ever taken a wrench to this truck and I was wondering if there is anything that I need to be aware of before I get under the thing.

My abilities with a wrench are pretty solid, although the only vehicle I've needed to work on over the past few years is my 94 Jeep YJ.

I have done this a couple of times on my jeep without any troubles. I am just wanting to make sure that there isn't anything odd I need to be aware of.

Also, I'm curious what the average time needed for this repair is. Thanks in advance for any info that you all have.

The truck is a 2007 F150, 2wd, 5.4, 6 lug.

well mine is a 4X4 so it is a totally different animal, but I know the 2wd has a nut that holds the rotor on, this nut is a one time use nut so a new on has to be put on. The new nut is supposed to be torqued really high. I'm not sure of the exact number. do a search for 2wd brake job and you'll get some good info

its not a hard job. You can go to any place that works on large trucks they will have the proper torque wrench. you need a 36 mm socket for the nut removal.

What about just using the impact wrench with my air compressor? It's rated at close to 400ft/lbs max torque.

Why don't I just use my hammer drill next time you need some dental work?

Use the proper tools, you'll thank yourself later on.
