stuck sliders

will heating up the caliper damage it. my slider pins are froze up.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't the slider bolt to the caliper and slider inself fit inside the caliper bracket?

I had 2 stuck pins last time I did brakes and fought with removing them from the brackets for 2+hours, then I got on line and found you could buy replacement brackets from O'reileys for $10 a piece. That's a heck of a lot cheaper than 2 hours of my time.

link to O'reileys brake bracket ....ok so they want $16 for the back and $20 for the front but it is still cheap compared to the pain of trying to remove a seriously stuck pin.

I stand corrected! Lol its stuck in the bracket. Thanks for the link! I just assumed the bracket would b a dealer item! Thanks!

You can also find the brackets from eBay for under $23 including shipping!

Last night I had to heat the driver side bracket a little, in order to get the upper pin out.
;) I doubt little heating will do harm, as long as you don't overdo it!

It's best to replace the pins, since they are the parts rusting most - not the cast iron brackets.
Set of new pins installed with synthetic disc brake part grease and new seal boots should make them work for long time.

If u take the caliper bracket off, pinch the caliper pin in a vise, and give it a good whack downward with a hammer, it will usually pop out. Clean it up, replace the pins and lube everything nicely and u should be gtg

Heated mine with acetylene torch, came right out. Used a bristle cleaner designed for a 12 gauge shotgun and cleaned out the holes, used some 500 grit sandpaper on the pins. Like 1 dollar spent. Good as new.

I just changed my front caliper because it stuck about 5 miles from home my brakes were smoking when I pulled in the drive way. I let it cool for about 45 mins took it off and when I took it to the parts store it was still warm about 2 hours later. Not a thing wrong with the pads or rotor believe it or not

Advanced Auto has caliper, bracket, slides and pins for 62 bucks!

My boots are missing, am I better off replacing pins too? They seem to be ok now that I cleaned out the bracket and relubed them, I just don't have the rubber boots to hold the lube.
