Whatever you use, why couldn't you just put the new column in the same place as the old one? If they built clearance for that one, it should be a non-issue.

You ask about a new steering column and about a new steeringbox
I have now a ididit steering column with toyota powersteering box
And now problems with the headers

I had to modify my last tube to fit the toyota box in my '54 with a 390. sanderson ff390's

Header clearance - THE H.A.M.B.

i would think the stock box would fit better then the toyota one.

I have the stock header that is why it fit
The sanderson headers are larger

I seen some Here 0308Cl Straightaxil11 Z Photo 11
But if I found some stock 390 headers will it clear my original steering box in the 55 ?

yes the toyota kit will fit your original column with mods. you'll need to cut the stock column and weld, spline your old shaft or double d the old shaft to fit the new u joint.
