Quick pictures from last night. Not a big load but my street rod I sold. The guy that bought it is paying me extra to deliver it to him 6 hours away.

Np it is a 10K trailer with approx. 8k payload on the axles so if I loaded it to have a tongue weight of 1K (I approx.) then I have a max payload of 9K pounds within axle ratings and tongue/hitch ratings and within my GVWR/GCWVR. From 9k I have to subtract the winch, straps, battery and cables but not much more than 300-400#
I do wish I had gotten a 14K so I have more headroom for payload but they sat higher (harder to load low profile cars) and I rarely tow CC DRW.
See I am not that wreckless ;)

All 6.0 jokes aside, i probably would have hooked the cummins up to the trailer and hauled the 6.0 lighter, shorter, narrower lol

What kind of camper is that? Looks like an airstream

garryk6 03-29-2017 05:36 PM

It's a 1966 Avion that we resurrected in 2011 as a way to take family vacations off the island. Cost of living in Alaska is high and when you live on Kodiak island, the only way on and off is by air or ferry. The ferry is 9-12 hours depending on the ferry. And you pay by the passenger and by the foot length of your vehicle. So traveling with our old 30' travel trailer in WA state would not work in Kodiak. Additionally the marine environment here was terrible on two motor homes we tried. A 23' and a 29'. Could not go off road, we're not 4x4 and would sit between trips and then not be reliable. We are by the ferry measurements 25' long. So the truck and camper each way are about $350-400 depending on summer or winter rates. Each passenger is about $75 each way, and if you add a state room, it could be $95-$195 each way. We are a family of 6 so it is tight, but we make it work.

I did not drive like this, as the lift weighs nearly 4000 lbs
