Manual gearbox work on 1974

The 74 F250 farm truck is apart for an engine change-over.
While out of the truck is it a hard repair to install new sinchroes, and other worn parts it may need, to solve my grinding as it goes into second gear.
Yes I have a garage and tools, but limited nowledge of gearbox repair.

As far as transmissions go these are easy to work on. You need a manual that shows the proper tear down procedure. I helps to take some pictures as you go.
Be sure to use new seals and check the end play in the front shaft that goes into the clutch. Most have plastic tips on the ends of the shift forks that can be worn or broken.
You can buy rebuild kits from Jeffs Bronco graveyard.
If you have gears bad, they can get pretty expensive.

The only difficult part is aquiring some spare steel to use as a temporary shaft in place of the counter shaft.

Also to help drive it out of the case too.

Other than that, a good diagram and snap ring pliers.

A press would be nice too.

Thanx for the help.
It went without a hitch, and the worn parts were obvious, and replaced easily.
I will be putting it and the engine back in the truck tomorrow.
A beter shop manual would have been good, but I made do with the generic manual the library had.
