That's really interesting. I'm surprised it would take the same plugs to allow it to swap in. Must be just an extra pin or two is missing on the switch you have.

It's a little faded, but here's a used one for half the price. Appears to be part number YL1Z-13K359-AAA, which brought up others as well:

The left and right barn door handles appear to be the same. I say appear as I do not have a left one to compear my recently purchased right one to. But the right handle does fit into the left opening. The right handle has a solid rod that goes down to the latch on the bottom of the door that the handle simply lifts to release the catch. The problem with the left is the handle is on the side of the door, not over top like the right. Someone previously mentioned a cable FIX procedure, so I am guessing that the left door will use a cable to pull the release on the catch, though I have not been able to identify or locate one. I have found this 14" one on Amazon that might do the trick though. It has a barrel connector on one end that I can fit into the handle with 1 minor modification, and a dog leg connection on the other end that should be able to go into a hole on the latch release. I still have to pull the left latch out to make sure there is a pull hole, or room to make one and make sure there is or I can make a place for the cable housing ends to attach properly to the handle and the latch for the cable to pull properly. More to come as I get all the parts and take it apart.

I just realized today that my entertainment system is not an original unit. It does not even look like one. I had thought that someone had just hacked into it for some reason. Here is the leading edge of the DVD player and screen.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...1e53a552f7.jpg Note that the rear climate control center is missing. This is a CarCinema unit. There was also a TV antenna across the top of the front windshield and there was an interface box to send audio to the dash radio. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...3b9a59980a.jpg Below is the factory system https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...fc64cb2bc6.jpg I have removed the DVD entertainment system as it was not working. Now I am wondering if it would be possible to add back in an A/C climate control in this location? https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...e2b84c7180.jpg |
I looked at the climate control plugs as in the last photo in my previous post and found I have all 4 plugs hanging out of my EX's roof as are required for the switches. So I purchased one off eBay for $24. So off to the next issue.
The factory 6 disc changer is shot, so I removed it and the radio still works. I have an XM Xpress RCi sat radio receiver but it needs an AUX connector for it to work. My radio has the two connectors on the back and one of them can be left unplugged for the radio to work. I think this is the external CD changer cable? There is a AUX kit that plugs into this connector but its $81 plus shipping. I can get a single din radio with AUX input, but I am having problems finding one with a compatible steering wheel control interface. If anyone has had the same dilemma as I am in, what did you do to make this work? There are a couple of threads on this but they are quite old now. Thanks |

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon...._AC_UL115_.jpg The cable came in today so I got to work adding a working handle to the left door. Just added the procedure to my photo gallery with commentary starting with the photo link below... http://redshost.com/2004excursion/th...227_133419.jpg -- Click here to go to the gallery |
Removed the bracket the old entertainment (DVD) system was attached to. Looks like it was made to fit where the climate control was. The eBay 2nd row climate control arrived and it fit the hole perfectly. The lack of entertainment system wiring makes me think the EX did not come with that setup originally and the PO had an aftermarket one added. Not sure if the outline from the old system will ever go away.

Looks like this EX was only used to transport a family with kids and dogs. I do not see any evidence that is was used to tow anything substantial. It looks as if the rear end is sagging a little, I guess the leaf springs in the rear did not hold up like the coil springs in the front have. As I plan to tow my 24', appx 8k lb enclosed car trailer, I'm going to install the to help lift the back end up with the assistance of the weight distribution hitch. I did a forum search but did not see anything recent about the Add-A-Leaf product.

My 2nd driving lamp from RockAuto showed up yesterday, and I have the proper color paint so I can repaint both the front and back bumpers. But I have decided if I am going to pull the bumper off as I might as well get the larger Trans cooler and put it in so I do not have to pull the front one off again just to install the cooler. So that project is on hold un until after the New Years when the cooler should be delivered.

All the parts are in for the front end, but it had been raining the beginning of the week. Today I installed the Explorer Pro Comp 13128 2.5"Lift Add-A-Leaf springs. Before starting, the top of the trailer hitch is at 16". I found some on-line documentation as I did not have any. Got this kit as an open box from Amazon for $48. Summit has it listed for $105

As to the front bumper, you can buy one on CL for an x, f250, f350, all the same for that year. $100 or so should get it done. You being in S FL, even easier. There's a guy around the 826 that does 15 front end conversions, he has plenty of parts that he takes off. I just gave mine away locally when I did the 07 front. Brand new fogs on ebay $80 for the pair. |
Someplace I had posted about my rear passenger window being able to go down from that locations switch, but not up. I borrowed the front door's switch and had the same issue. Drivers master control will put the window up. It was thought the drivers master switch might be bad, so I got a new replacement and finally got around to putting it in, with the same results. So its not the drivers master switch.
