Plus the air under the truck is HOT. The cooling system dumps it's heated air under the truck, plus the exhaust runs through there. It's hard to cool something with hot air.

i cant find the past posts i have seen reference something you have said in the past about optimum temps, so what is the optimum/desired temps to run this trans at? Is a continuous 140 too cold? I have debated a 6.0cooler, I almost bought one yesterday, buti have a feeling i will be sub 150F for my normal driving as I dont tow oftenand mostly just cruise interstate at 75ish

The trans was designed to run around 170-180F. Running it colder won't make it last longer, but will cut your fuel economy.
