I've been thinking about buying the Cartouche kit from Mac's based on the good results discussed here. However, when I looked at the description in the catalog it didn't mention anything about the burlap or batting. I call them and the operator confirmed that all they're currently selling is the seat cover and the hardware to attach it. Did the kit you guys used include the burlap, gray padding and cotton batting or did you buy those things locally?

Mine came as a kit with all the padding for the whole seat and burlap for the seat back. They only piece that needed to be purchased if you want it was the burlap for the bottom.

There is a fair disconnect internally between Mac's and the Cartouche teams. When I spoke to the Mac's technical team about an interior kit question, they were not much help. There is a separate number for the Cartouche support team. These folks were very aware of detailed elements of the kits that completely escaped the chat / Mac's catalog folks.
I don't have the hotline number in front of me right now, but will post it first light here. |

Well, I called the Cartouche hotline and talked to the lady in tech support. She said it does include the padding and she called down to the guy who handles the cover kits to confirm it. I ordered one so we'll see who's right. I almost blew it though because I forgot that there's always a 10% sale going on. Just happened to glance at the website as I was placing the order on the phone and was able to give her todays discount code.

Good to hear, Dan. I've been pleased with all my Cartouche kits, perhaps you'll be as well.

FYI for anybody who's still wondering, the cover kit from Mac's does come with the gray padding and cotton batting. Someone ought to tell the tech support people at Mac's.

I don't have a picture and the truck is in storage for the winter. I'll see if I can get out there to take a picture if you would like me to.

I think part of the problem was that I hadn't trimmed away enough of the cotton batting so when I stretched the fabric over the frame too much was bunching up under the cover, especially at the corners. I trimmed it some more and it's going together fairly well. I put the burlap between the coil springs and the zig-zag springs the way it was when I took it apart. I like the look but it made it tough in some spots to attach the hog rings. I'm still playing around with attaching the top corners so everything lies flat but other than that I'm happy with the results.

Dan, the seat back looks good!

Atta boy, Dan. That looks great. Upholstery work isn't too tough if you are willing to be patient.
