Sorry no time for a pic right now, on baby partol w/ a 2 wk old. Just look directly up under the degas bottle for a 2 wire sensor mounted on a bracket w/ a stainless tube going from it to the exhasut manifold.

ok thanks, good description, ill google a pic

My 05 F350 was a tube coming out of the manifold and ended up right next to and under the Oil dip stick. I have a early 05 F350 with a 04 build engine. I replaced the EBP sensor and cleaned the electrical contacts before plugging back in. Check out this link to help locate it. Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - bismic's Album: EBP and MAP
After I replaced it my truck is running absolutely fantastic. My sorry dealer wanted to do a Turbo clean and didn't even tell me about the EBP sensor and the fact that it can cause a Turbo to not work and cause other erratic behavior. They know I had two codes but only wanted to address the expensive one and I would of had the same issue if I had let them proceed. I also may be wrong but I believe the new EBP replacement is an upgraded part because of a TSB I read. In any case it sure wouldn't hurt to clean it and the contacts and tube. My old one looked clean and yet didn't work so just because it looks fine doesn't mean its working as mine wasn't. Good luck and I think codes would still help if that is not the problem

thanks hifiman, would diconnecting the EBP reset anything?

lewis racing 09-09-2010 06:10 PM

All i can say to all this is,,, what is "limp mode"???? lol

solaratomic 09-09-2010 06:10 PM

My bad, I forgot there are two different styles. Mine is the newer style w/ eng build date 07/15/2005. Disconnecting it did not disturb anything.

When the computer detects a major fault w/ engine operation it goes into a defuel or sort of an anti-self destruct mode.

I do not think so but a mechanic I am not. The only reason I knew what a code p0470 was (EBP sensor) is that I researched the heck out of what that code meant and what symptoms it could have if it failed. I bought the sensor at Ford for 80.00. However without codes you are flying kind of blind. I will say after researching that code that I found many that beat their wallets and heads on the ground with Turbo replacements and cleanings and the whole time it was just the EBP, its electrical connector or a clogged tube going to the sensor. May or may not be your problem but worth looking in to. Im such a bad wrench turner that I didn't even take off the tube and clean it, however replacing the sensor and just cleaning the electrical plug was very easy on my truck. I did remove the air cleaner and its feeds just to give me a little extra room. On that link I posted you will have to see if yours is located in the old or new position.

trying to find a code reader that will work, i tried taking the EBP valve out, but burnt my fingers pretty good in the process, ill wait till the motor cools

solaratomic 09-09-2010 06:56 PM

You'll need two wrenchs to take the sensor off the tube, I can't remember which sizes though.

lewis racing 09-09-2010 07:32 PM

oh ok,, i know about "limp mode",, mine did it once. I prefer the stiff mode.lol
Sorry man, dont mean to make light of your problem. I know what its like to have problems.. Sorry

Nah its good, something always breaks around here, between tractors, mowers, 2 trucks, 2 cars, fourwheelers, boat, weedeaters, and the list goes on, i spend my time doing homework, chillin with friends and fixing broken ****. cant complain though

I have heard carb cleaner.

lakewood 09-10-2010 03:06 PM

Just pulled the EBP out, i started the truck and put my finger over the top of the EBP tube, exhaust flowed out seemlessly, so the tube isnt clogged. My mom was by the local dealer so shes picking up the part for me. Hopefully truck will be up and running tonight, ill post when the good news comes.

Thanks for all the help
