I hadn't seen those before. I was going to ask for pictures! Thanks for posting those.

Cheers

Josh

Josh did me a p.m. and helped me see that the same seller also has this '51 F-5 MH. Might be a former Snogo, but it's DRW so maybe not. Might just have been a municipal or state service truck. Stu

that cabover is pretty nice. about the size of my truck. would look good in my drive. (i could use those wheels) the 51 is an old sno-go. got all the tell tale signs.

ALBUQ F-1 05-01-2011 10:04 AM

What's the story on the wheels? It appears they are new or at least repainted; replacements for WM's? That would make a huge difference in price, if so.

truckdog62563 05-01-2011 10:50 AM

Painted for sure, but the pic isn't clear enough on my laptop for me to see if there's a joint on the rear. But wheels aren't a deal breaker IMHO. Especially if Josh goes for it since he seems to have a good source. Stu

thundersnow70 05-01-2011 07:56 PM

the thing i noticed was the yellow wheels on the coe and the yellow paint on the 500. if you look at the back of the 500, those wheels aren't yellow like the front. might have been a little switch-a-roo at some point but that doesnt really matter. good luck with it josh and dont give up havi, i might have spotted another one but i am waiting for my dad to hand over the spotting scope so i can get a better view. its a hike off the road and the weeds are up to the wheel wells. sure looks like a hood badge on there tho. i will keep you posted.
and check out those nasty front tow hooks! those have to be factory because chucks has them to. MENTAL NOTE TO SELF "GET BIG TOW HOOKS AND BIG LIGHTS FOR ROOF"

Well; I got ALL PUMPED UP this morning when I saw my new toy, here's a picture of me this morning picking up the truck!

I really felt Like Stu was talking to me when he said "someone" needs to save this truck< So I didn't want to let him down... ;)

I've got a nice ring binder with MH info and a bunch of pictures etc, I haven't had time to go through it yet, but these were a few loose pictures that I scanned really quick to post. I gotta find out some more of the history on this truck and I have some nice starting places.

Runs good. first thing I'll need to do is replace the side door glass and adjust the doors, both sides are hanging up on the rear edge of the fenders and bent in a little bit right there.

I'm pretty excited about the truck and it was a great deal, Eventually it will need some restoration but for now I want to just drive it! (will need some work done to be road ready but not too much) Got a hell of a lot of looks from folks while hauling it home. (maybe it was the b@lls in there face) :-X04

HOLY c wrap is that your back yard?? nice collection..

petey shoes 05-07-2011 07:22 AM

congrads on the new purchase! however--- i am a bit dissappointed with you. it appears, (from the first pic), that you have been slacking in the work-out dept! seems like you lost some bulk.

truckdog62563 05-07-2011 11:12 AM

Josh - I did sorta have you in mind when I brought it up, but that's just 'cause you're half way close as western distances are measured. Glad you got her picked up safe and sound. I think you got a great deal on it. And thanks for the heads up on that yard, and for leaving part numbers with the yard operator. That place might add a whole day to our trip west some time. A slice of heaven indeed. Stu

great score josh, glad you got her. enjoy the search for mh info and parts chasing.

I think Josh just wanted an excuse to test the limits on that fancy new 3 axle trailer. :-X04

What a cool ride. I love it! :-X22

What's the story with the COE wrecker??

Josh, unlike a couple other guys I can think of (you and me), at least bought one that runs and drives. But you're right that he will join us in a perpetual search for literature and M-H bits. And he'll no doubt get to know Chuck in the process. He told me in a text that his truck is a CM-604 model. Finding the manual for it might be a task I suspect. There's a manual on eBay now for a CM754, but that's a bigger truck.

Boy, I agree Wayne. I've got trailer envy bad. Stu

jmadsen 05-10-2011 12:02 AM

Thanks Mark, Ya I'm pretty excited about this rig. hopefully won't need any MH specific parts right away, but Im sure the basic drivetrain gaskets etc will for sure be in order as everything under there has a nice sheen of gear oil on it. Thats a good thing though, It's like my GPW, when the oil leeks slow down a bit I know it's time to top everything off! :-X04

The other problem I was realizing is that I have just added another body/model to my criteria (beyond my 51 52's) for searching body specific parts, so I need to check the doors and see if the door glass is any good, otherwise I'll be looking for those fairly soon as well.

Odometer say IIRC 96000 miles ,but based on a letter from a certain MH restorer/collector in Colorado to the prior owner he states that the truck probably only has 15,000 actual miles and the rest where racked up by the drill based on how it runs off the auxillary??? and that the truck would probably at least need a valve job.

The engine has a rebuild tag on it and isn't coated in 50 years of dirt and grease so probably in good shape, sounds good too.
I'm sure I don't even know what I need/should have for this truck yet but I'll learn.

Wayne, You know what they say about the size of a mans trailer right?
"The bigger it is the bigger the toys he hauls home"..... :D and apparently it's true...

I was scouring local ads and searching for some decent tires for my trailer for the past few weeks and on Thursday I broke down and purchased 4 new ones, out of the 6 tires on there only 3 were actual trailer tires, the other where p series car/truck tires and not in great shape either. needless to say I was a bit worried about hauling that truck with crap tires, but the trailer worked awesome, hardley new it was there and pulled great.

I've already decided that this truck is going to Bonneville this year, will make a great platform for hanging out in and watching the action. No, I don't think I'll drive it there, just trailer it close and then drive it in.

gonna test the truck on the trailer with the duals on and see if the balance is ok? if not them maybe I'll just add a couple hundred pounds of something to the front on the trailer ;) cracked flathead blocks or something like that.

btw I'll call that yard back tommorrow and see if they happened to find anything on those wheels, I'd wager a bet that they have the one's Stu collects as it looked like I saw a couple late 40's internationals as I drove by part of the yard. Wish I had at least spent 20 minutes to take a couple better pictures, lots of bonus built stuff there as well.

Cheers

Josh

Edit;
Wayne
I don't know about the COE wrecker but it sure is nice! I believe the prior owner of my truck owned that shop in the background (Twin Falls Idaho) (Magic Valley Polycoating) and I have numerous photos of his? or maybe clients? various trucks out front. I'll try to finish scanning the pictures and add them to the photobucket link here soon, some other nice trucks in there 53-55 mostly I think. anyone know of the business or of this person?

Here is what I found looking for info, Sounds like he was a great guy and its sad that he was so young when he left, I may try to track down some friends? family didn't seem to know much about the trucks. http://www.mountainhomenews.com/story/1471825.html
