This fella lives down the road away from me. Ames, OK has a cool little museum of old fords, race cars and mustangs. Brent Hajek, pronounced "hike", is a good old boy, been to a party or two at his place.

How come you sold the Pontiac? Nice looking car!

Sorry I missed this post...

'Sold it because I had one too many vehicles since adding the Ferrari. The original plan was to sell it before getting the Spider but it didn't happen........ and it was a GM product!!!

I got a text from the buyer and he and his wife have been weekending the car throughout the foothills with the top down and smelling all the smells .. pastures, orchards, weekend barbeques, etc... he's happy. I'm happy.... Plus, the Lemans was so long in my garage (an enclosed carport) that I could not get to the other side without opening the garage door. It's really nice not having to open it to do laundry!!!!

On another note, I just got back from the GoodGuys show in Pleasanton and ended up talking to a rep of IDIDIT steering. 'Turns out they changed their design for 67-72 F-trucks and it is no longer based on GM bits and pieces and required a GM-spec steering wheel..... now they offer a tilt manual trans column that uses Ford splines, a Ford turn signal switch, and bolts right in... perfectly. A paintable tilt column (floor-shifted manual transmission) is right around $480. It'll be on the shopping list for the continuing saga of the LBB build.....

'Picked up some 40- and 80-grit flap wheels, cut-off wheels, a Mothers clay bar kit, a 36-count bag of microfiber towels, two Confederate flag license plates (cuz I figure they won't be produced again given the uber political correct climate), and a 1964 vintage Coleman two-burner stove ($20). I looked for the Ford light bulb ("Better Idea") front plate but struck out.

Thanks. But the "better" one is the version that is just "FORD" with the O replaced by the light bulb - no other text.

Yep... the same as on the LBB. I'll be on the hunt for 'em on all my old iron. I have my front tag under the bulb tag in case a law enforcement official feels I need to have the legal configuration.

While dismantling the front end, one of the mounting studs snapped off the turn signal lamp housing (left in the pic below). Plus the housing was severely rusted due to a bad gasket. It was fixed by first soaking in the electrolysis vat and the then broken stud was rosette-welded to the housing. After a coat of paint, I used stainless steel duct sealing tape to provide better light reflectivity. Simple.

Both of my signal light brackets bolts broke off while removing. I drilled through the spots and I'll use screws and nuts for assembly. I don't have welding assets.

Thanks for the stainless steel duct tape idea HIO. Awesome! :-X22

Works great on tail light housings too!

Good progress.

'got the firewall painted after pulling body plugs, pushing the wiring harnesses into the cab. Sealed up some of the gaps with strip caulk like the factory did. Strip caulk is also used on the washer nozzles and steering column plate.

I spent a few hours of "quality time" with this puppy. It quickly ate the rust, dirt, and whatever residue was left. A smaller version was employed to get into the nooks and then used 80-grit by hand... Btw, wear a full face shield, a respirator, and ear plugs cuz the drone of grinder is tiring.. plus it was 90° today.

While drying, I got a few more of the suspension nuts and bolts wire-wheeled and primed. Also took inventory of the front end and still need to get brake pads and front shocks.

Masked off the firewall, wiped off the bare steel with acetone, primed with Rustoleum Rust Converter, and then waited after sunset before spraying the Rustoleum Engine Paint in semi-gloss black. It's a bit too glossy for my taste but what the heck.

This week's to-do list is cleaning up the steering box, fabbing a bracket for a Wilwood prop valve, and installing the MC and booster.

The TKO-500 arrives tomorrow.

HIO, I hope I can get mine to look this purdy. Nice job and I ike the gloss BTW. That's what I'm gonna do.

BTW, what a Wilwood Prop valve for?

Thanks. You can! It's rustoleum 500° semi-gloss black engine enamel. I ordered two cases (12 cans) since I have many Fords in the fleet awaiting their turn. Have you seen my 71 F250? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...n-71-f250.html

The Wilwood prop valve is for the disc brake upgrade. I chose it because the OEM disc/drum bias valve is unrebuildable and troublesome... OFF WITH ITS HEAD!

I went to Cars N Coffee at Blackhawk Plaza (Danville, CA). There must have been 250 cars of all makes and models from exotics, imports, old muscle, contingents of newer Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers.... I drove my Ferrari but was on the lookout for Bumps and Dents and only located one.. a 72 F250 Sport Custom.

Met some nice people. Make sure to visit a Cars and Coffee if there is one held in your area. A neat way to 'network' too... I met a fellow Ford guy who can re-gear the 9-inch in the LBB with a 3.90 and Traction-Lok.
