Description:

1963 F100 4x4 Wrong Bed (engine problem?)

Overview/history:  I purchased the truck in August of 2021 from the prior owner who completed a frame up restoration circa 2000.  Everything was redone at the time including a rebuild of the 292 V8 engine by a certified master mechanic.  The PO drove this about 4,000  (mostly to shows) - and the truck was always garaged.  In the year that I’ve owned it I changed only a few things to bring it closer to original - five newly refurbished OEM steel wheels, five new period correct STA G78 tires, and a very hard to find OEM in bed spare tire mount.  I’ve driven the truck fairly regularly but only about 1,000 miles in total since purchase.

Body:  The body is nearly perfect.  There is no rust anywhere on the body or frame, and the truck shows very light routine wear - I sometimes pick up lumber with it or drive to the dump.  The data plate shows it came from the factory Raven Black, but he PO put the period correct optional paint scheme on during the original restoration.  The truck has factory 4x4 and the Custom Cab factory package including a tube radio, emergency flashers, and cigar lighter.  The vast majority of the body components are original Ford: NOS mirrors and tailgate, the cab is OEM from a ‘64,  and the bed, frame, drivetrain, dash & gauges and engine all OEM Ford.

Engine:  Between me and the PO the engine has 5,000 miles since rebuild.  I had every engine gasket replaced - from the rear main seal to the valley pan and everything between.  I had the oil pump rebuilt at the time of the rear main seal, simply because it had to be removed anyway for the seal.  The valves were adjusted when the valve cover gaskets were replaced; new points when the distributor gasket was replaced.  I’ve driven it lightly but regularly for the last year.  Shortly before this listing I was pulling into gas station and suddenly lost oil pressure - gauge went to zero.  I checked the oil - full.  No obvious leaks, so I assumed the sending unit failed (it was original to restoration).  I drove straight to my mechanic - about a mile - and on the trip the truck kept stalling.  Mechanic estimates the oil pump failed or maybe the pickup came off and is in the oil pan.  But I did not have him open the engine to look and had the truck towed home.

COVID/life/employment changes mean I can’t invest any money into the truck, so I’m reluctantly selling it.  I’m pricing it assuming the engine is bad; I don’t know that for sure and a mechanic-buyer may be getting a tremendous deal on a virtually original, very hard to find truck.  The engine does turn over, but because it isn’t pumping oil no test drives or starting the engine.  I’m happy to send more pictures or any other information that I can provide - I am in touch with the PO/restorer if you want historical info.  Truck comes with original Ford parts manual (all 3 volumes) and reprint of the original Ford service manual, including supplement.  I’m located on the Massachusetts coast north of Boston.
