Description:
2004 Ford Excursion Limited 4x4, 6.0L diesel, 179K miles, leather interior, backup sensors, rear defroster, roof rack, steering wheel controls, and more. We have owned this truck for 8 years (purchased with about 60K miles, IIRC), and have used it for family trips, minor hauling, and occasional use towing a car trailer. We had planned on keeping the Excursion forever since nothing else that we could buy at the time could seat 8 and tow 11,000 pounds. However our plans have changed. We bought an RV that puts the Excursion at the limit of what it can safely tow. I have used synthetic oil for many years and have changed it and the oil and fuel filters sooner than spec. Here's a list of what has been done:
Very new: tires (Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac 285/75R16, load range E, the best all-terrain tire I have ever purchased--I was able to drive through 18" of snow and not get stuck yet still quiet on the road), batteries, rear brake rotors and pads and brake fluid flush, transmission temperature sensor, and IPR sensor.
Newer: oil cooler (Ford part), EGR cooler (upgraded unit from IPResearch), coolant filter system (IPResearch), coolant flush and change (thorough flush with silicate and iron deposit cleaners then filled with CAT ELC-1 and distilled water).
Included but not installed: front receiver hitch, gauges (AutoMeter Ford Factory Match boost, EGT, and fuel pressure), pillar pod, and new front and rear brake parts.
Also done: F-250 V/P code springs (with less than 60,000 miles now, resulted in a little under 2" of lift), shocks (Bilstein), ball joints, FICM, turbo, brake controller (Prodigy P-1), rear sway bar, stereo (Kenwood), CB (Galaxy not included, will replace with a different unit unless you want to pay extra) with co-phased dual antennae, full size matching spare tire and wheel (extra matching wheel and original steel spare wheel included), "blue spring" fuel pressure upgrade, Fumoto oil drain valve for less messy oil changes, EGR valve, fuel pump, passenger side fuel injectors, and an IHC/Navistar water separator/fuel filter drain plug.
Problems: small windshield crack in passenger side bottom corner, front bumper (some peeled paint and light surface rust on passenger side), very small driver's side quarter panel dent, other small chips and scratches, and overhead display does not work.
This truck has been set up for towing and transporting a family with cargo. Third row seat is removable. As above, we planned on keeping this forever but circumstances have changed. The only thing keeping this Excursion 6.0L from being fully "bulletproofed" is that it has not had the head bolts replaced with ARP studs. However, since owning it this truck has never had a tuner or other programmer or power adder on it.
