I have a 1978 f150 4x4 with the np435 trany had a master rebuild kit by novack and output shaft installed now it wont down shift from 3rd to second or from anywhere to second well utill i reach a complete stop just grinds any ideas on how to fix this problem all outher gears shift normaly thanks for any advice.
I rebuild t5's, (80's mustang trannies)...however the concepts are all the same. If all gears did this, I would say the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. However, since it's just 2nd gear, you've got an internal problem. What would cause this?? Prob syncros, maybe shift fork tabs...
Worthy of mentioning, and I'd like to hear more opinions on this subject matter, but my np435 does the exact same thing....I can't put it in 2nd until I'm nearly at a complete stop...often I have to be at a complete stop, or rolling at 2 miles and hour. Often third is the same..downshifting from 4 to 3 or 3 to 2....downshifting on my np435 is just a bear most often...Perhaps nature of the beast?
no double clutching dosent work still grinds till the maiting gear slows down enough, not syncronizeing at all worked fine befor the rebuild so thinking it must be a shiming issue anyone know about this any help would be great.
Must be an issue with shims, or somthing to that extent... even a tranny with shot syncros should be able to double clutch it and down/up shift... well at least thats been my experience...
