Somebody glanced hard off my left rear corner on Southfield Rd this morning. Couldn't get his plate, esp as it was hard to merge left with no signal. Anyway, pics on http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=396&id=100000754324597&saved#!/?ref=home
Not as bad as it looks really, but STX beds not common for this body around here from what I've seen & mine was 1 of the cleaner beds. Ugh. Budget sucks for getting it road-ready again of course. Might borrow engine parts to fix my folks' old Ranger for a while.
I guess any ol' Ranger from '93 to 97 would do after some measurements I took. I'm thinking I need a whole Ranger with a solid bed & see what else I can salvage that might be better than those on the STX. Still look stupid, but that quarter panel & corner of the floor is a mess. At least the minivan I'm pretty sure came out FAR worse. What I could see of its hood... If I can snag a '97 with engine intact, the intake parts might eek a smidge more work out of that Taurus mill. I'll be driving a tamer version of that truck for a while & just idle this thing every week jamming to some tunes.
My ride | Facebook I only created a Facebook page to try & iron out a quickie foundation for work-related stuff. Eh, friends make that concept kinda flimsy. Esp with no content of factory activity to work with these days.
How much would those beds run? I'm short on cash, but trying to free up funds. OTOH, I might ultimately need to sell the beast off & take over a bleeping Silverado - I'm the only driver who can handle it in this household now. The main debate is can we make do with a couple of Rangers or do they need somebody to have the fullsize supercab available with that 5.7 Vortec.
PS, I came up with a cheap repair idea involving SMARC welding & fiberglass, but probably wouldn't be pretty. Weld the inner bracing mostly to hold the bed solid & support the gate hinge. The driver's side lower hinge is folded almost 180 degrees! And basically the whole bed is out of alignment. The bottom bolts held the floor tight with the 2 front bolts corroded to sticks. Currently has a cap on it from the other family Ranger due to my brother's inability to drive a truck with a cap.
Yeah, rare indeed! Don't really need decals. XLT bed sounds CHEAP! Might even try & trace out decals for stencil work anyway. A bigger engine in there would be a royal treat, but not until the rest of the truck is solid, as in new leaf hangers & cab mount brackets. I miss driving that stiff 4x4 truck with stick shift in a big way. Dad's Bowtie is like a cushy limo. That being said, the Chevy often suits them better for its 6-pass cab space & slightly easier entry. Easier to drive a 300-pound father around in... Also the much bigger bed. If I can, I'll keep both & sell other stuff off. O yeah, might even turn the old bed into a shed with the tall cap.
