86 B2 2.8 to 3.0 eng swap

How much trouble would it be, or is it possible, to replace a 2.8 v6 in a 1986 bronco II with a 3.0 EFI v6 out of a 89 Sable?
I know the trannys and harnesses would all have to swap as well. Will it bolt up? How hard is it to swap over the electronic stuff? thanks!

If it is a 2.8, its a 84-85......2.9 was 86-90
Too much trouble, it would be easier to drop a 302 in, considering all the electrical and component modification.

To give yourself a fighting chance, get a junker b2 or ranger with a 2.9 - at least your tranny and engine mounts would line up (plus the engine and all accessories are pointed in the right direction to start with, and you can figure out the wiring harness, get the fuel tank/line with the FI pump etc). Or maybe a 4.0/tranny out of a 2nd gen ranger or an explorer maybe.

A 3.0 is a different animal from 2.8/2.9 (as you noted) even when taken out of a front-pointing application like a ranger (though as you might guess from my tagline, I'm partial to 'em). The cross-mount 3.0 from a taurus has the same block & heads, but even subtle things like the head gaskets are allegedly diffrent (cause your coolant circulates differently). Letr alone trying to

I assume you're considering this because you've got access to an almost-free taurus with a good engine. Unless you've got lots of time on your hands a fair bit of money to pour into this one to overcome obstacles as noted (and others to come) to prove you can do it, suggest you sell the taurus/engine and put the proceeds towards a more straightforward swap.

Good luck!

Edit: Sorry attention wandered. Substitute Sable for taurus in the above
