Transfer Case Oiling
Hi. Dropped out my t case when I dropped my transmission and before I even noticed it had happened, a bunch of oil spilled out, maybe a quart or two. There are two square headed drain plugs on the side of the case towards the bottom, but I don't see anhywhere near the top to fill the t case with oil. When mounted to the frame, one plug will sit about 3 inches higher than the other. Do I fill the case there? Does it share fluid with the transmission since it's mated to it? And what oil should I use in the t case?

no it is a single unit. i use 80-90wt in there. Id say drain from lower plug.. fill from upper plug.. i can't remember but i think it was 2.. or 3 quarts ish to fill it but just stop when it comes up to the upper bolt hole's level.
ofcourse i'm assuming your talking about an Np205. Also i'm not a professional and don't claim to be. This is just what i have done.

Ya I've always assumed it's a np205, although I've never actually looked into it at all, do you know how to tell?

you will be able to tell .. atleast should be able to tell.. i think on the back side.. " facing rear diff" inbetween the top an the bottom .. should be an aluminum tag.. sliver with blue writing on it. should let you know. What year year model is this truck? even that said someone could have changed it but i doubt it ( who wouldn't want creme de la creme )

I call it a 79 F150, and the body is, but the rest is mixed, so I actually wouldn't be suprised at all if it was something else. I have a frame of I have no idea what age, but not original to the body, axles that I assume go with that, 77 tranny, 75+ 400 heads on what I just discovered is a 71 block, and I don't see any tag on the t case haha so it's a pretty big mixed bag. I'll keep looking around the case just out of curiosity over the next day or 2 when it's down. Thanks for the help though, AleX
