HEY GUYS NEED HELP!!!!!! ****updated***** anybody?
Hi long time folks.........
Need some help please. My dads trucks started and ran one day and the next tried to move it and nothing. The WTS light came on and would not go out. Gpr wouldn't click. That being said a few other attempts at starting the WTS light wouldn't come on...so I've been helping him over the phone...
Things I've had him try:
Fuse 22 and its fine fuel bowl is disconnected now as well.
He tried jumping the GPR and no luck. Had him plug the block heater in and its working fine. Warmed for 2 hours still nothing. Checked fuel bowl its full. Removed chip, disconnected icp and nothing. Checked ipr solenoid and its tight. Swapped relays 1 and 2. Tach moves while cranking (CPS). Hpop oil is full as well as oil in motor. Checked all the fuses in cab. Can't remember but one of them if blown won't let truck start I remember pulling it to build oil pressure when I did my 1's anyways none blown in cab. I've had him do other things as well but can't remember it all right now. I've been out of the game for a while but I think I covered most everything....truck runs for a few seconds on SF.....I know the cautions before u say it....I'm thinking idm maybe and I would love to hear your thoughts. I typed this on my BBERRY sorry its a little short..please keep in mind my old man is very mechanically inclined and taught me everything about wrenching...thanks as always and keep on stroking. I can't get past the wts light and GPR though I just can't put my finger on it....computer????
Hey 97,
I agree with James, a quick swap of the IDM would be the easiest. If not what about DTC codes? Does he have a good scanner that can do more than the typical Autozone otc scanners? He would be looking for a P1298 code indicating IDM failure. I had an IDM go bad on me, though my truck would start. My IDM had accumilated about a half cup of water.

If it is chipped or a programmer , try removing it (keys in your pocket). I would also check & clean PCM connections .Triple check fuses 22 & 9. May need a PCM ...
thanks for the help guys im leaning towards the things listed above as well. i used to have the EASE program on my laptop but sold it when i sold my psd a few years ago(big mistake btw).... yeah i am pretty sure he has a buddy or two that can lend him an idm possibly. i think that #9 fuse is the one that i remember pulling right after i did my injectors. is that under the hood or in the cab? i'll have him check that one. i've had him check fuse 22 about ten times and also swapped it with another 30amp maxi as well.
fwiw i've lived here for about 4 years. havent been home for more than 10months in those 4 years though(military thats another story). glad the weather is getting nice here though. old man lives in norcal and has a cali truck so that makes things more interesting as well. i'll keep you updated cause thats the way this forum is feedback is a must!!!!!
thanks ryan
btw just to think i used to carry a brand new idm behind my seat as well as an accelerator pedal and cps....sold all that crap with the truck too. wish i had kept it now for my dad.

after i posted this earlier it got me to thinking...i cant remember the specifics on which one but didnt if the IVS or TPS went out on the go pedal the truck wouldnt run correct? would the truck start if you were pushing down on the pedal a little or not at all....dang i cant remember.
If the pedal goes gonzo the truck will usually run/start but not accelerate. If I was closer I'd throw my AutoEnginuity on it and see if I could shake anything out. Did he do anything between when it ran and when it quit like change the oil, work under the hood? I'm sure he has already but check all the UVC connections to make sure they are plugged in still. Any smoke out the tail pipe when cranking? No smoke means no fuel to the squirters so if all else checks out then it sounds like the IDM went kaput.
the gpr still isnt working and the WTS light either comes on and stays on or just wont come on at all.
replaced the cps today and he said no change...
i wish i still had my scan tool. going shopping for one that doesnt require a laptop. gonna look at a snap on ford enhanced i think. doesnt have anyone in the town he lives in that owns a psdto try idm's from?
No smoke is not a good sign if the fuses are good. Time to try a different IDM. If I had a spare I'd send it your way. Plumas county is a long way from me but I'll help out if I can.
