Is it worth looking at??

Hello All,
I am a huge Expedition fan and have a need for a larger vehicle to pull my camper with. MY expedition is a 97 and needs just a little more power.

I saw this Excursion at a dealership and since I am unfamiliar with the Excursion I was hoping for some help.

It is at a dealership about an hour away. 2000 Limited. 195K miles. V10. It has all of the bells and whistles.

Is this worth even worth the drive to view? What should I look for as in trouble areas? What are some of the problem areas in this year that I should look for?

Thanks in advance!

Roger

Depending on the price. I would at least go look at it. I too am an Expedition fan and upgraded from my 98 Expy to my 02 Excursion for towing my TT. My only regret was I wish I'd done it sooner! Some of the trouble areas I know of: ball joints, front hubs (try to turn the hub by hand, may be frozen up, but an easy upgrade to Warn or Milemarker lockouts), and if possible get an Oasis report on the vehicle. Good luck on you search, if you get one you'll wonder how you ever got by without one!

I agree with FordBoy - if the Oasis checks out with a clean enough history, go for it - as long as the price is right. The Ex is a wonderful vehicle!

They are asking $6000 for this vehicle. Are there any issues with the the V10? It just seems like they are asking too little for such a nice vehicle.

A 10 year old vehicle with almost 200,000 miles. Price seems reasonable. I would look at it. About a month ago I started a post about how many miles people had on their Ex's and several were well over the 250K mark.

i would look for lower miles if possible but they are great trucks! if you can find a '03-up v10 they have updated heads so the plug popping isnt an issue. but as long as they are taken care of i dont know that its really that big of a deal. you gas milage wont be near what the expy is but you have to expect that.

i also am a expy fan, i hope get one this year(blue one in the pic)..i've pretty much got it in the bag lol

and for the heck of it i thought you might get a kick outta this.

Love the picutre!!!
I will do a little more research then. From the post of AlaskanEx, do the V10's in general pre 03 have plug issues or is it just in the Excursion?
How big of an issue is this? Does repair this involve replacing the head or can they be helicolied?

The plug problem is common to both 6.8l V-10 and the 5.4l V-8 modular motors. I have had both (187,000 miles on my 5.4 and 153,000 so far on my 6.8) and have never had a plug issue, but from what I have seen here the ones that have had a plug spit out they have been able to helicoil it and not have to replace the head.

That price is OK if it has no issues. You will probably have to put BJs in it anyway......................offer 5K first
