Electric fan

I am back to my project and I want to run a elecric fan. I have a 1975 ford F100 short bed 300 3spd manual. I dont tow anything and the way the weather is changing all around the world I couldnt tell you if it is going to get 100 degrees in the summer here in the Willamette Valley, Oregon or not. I think I will go with a 16" puller but really dont know the on/off temp to use. I have a 195 t-stat and a 3 core aluminum radiator. my gauge reads right at 190-195 when running but that is at the back of the block and I will probably mount sending unit in water pump.So would I run a 220 on 195 off or 185 on 170 off? would it be cooler at front of block? or is the temp pertty even through whole motor? Thanks

I too have a '75 p/u, but mine is a F-350, with F-250 emblems. Recently I had a thread running regarding my swap to a Summit 31X19 aluminum cross flow rad.

I enjoy saving $ where I can, so I used a combination of 1 extreme high cfm 14" puller with shroud, and a 12" pusher outside. Both of the fans I pulled from the junk yard.

I have that connected to a 'painless' thermo switch I bought from Summit Racing. I run a 180 thermostat, and have the fans set to kick in at 190. That allows me to cruise w/o the fans, then at a light, when it heats up, they quickly cool the engine in only about 1 minute.

FYI: I believe the sending unit at the rear of the engine is the hot spot. I tried to use a thermo. switch in the water neck, but the temp guage would always read about 20 degrees hotter than when the switch was supposed to start the fans. I tried 2 with the same result.

FYI2: Space is tight. My radiator is 2.25" thick off the bulkhead. That left only about 3" to the w/pump pulley. So choose your fan wisely. That is why a lot of guys go with a dual fan set up. It allows for some 'placement.' However, some dual fans will pull quite a bit of amps. Mine draw 25 amps, but I usually drive around with just the puller working, and that is sufficient in the winter.
