Keep blowing fuse # 38 (trailer tow park lamps & backup lamps)
My 2003 Excursion 7.3 diesel keeps blowing fuse #38 (20A mini fuse). It’s hard to tow during hours of darkness when you don’t have trailer lights. Any thoughts or solutions? I’ve searched the forum but have not found any solutions. It’s done this with different trailers. Brian
Even though good diagnostic practice says to look at the common element (Ex) 1st, trailer wiring is so suspect that I'd look there.
It is possible that the fault is in the EX, just not likely. If you really want to look at the EX, look for physical damage to the wiring & plug out back.
If it's done this with different trailers more than likely the problem lies in the X. My guess is you've got a short some place which is blowing the fuse. Been there many times with the F250. Can't recall ever having that issue with the F350 though, never with the X.
