I like these carburetors and have used them for decades but have had a continuing problem with the cold choke snapping shut. When I romp it cold, the choke hangs open. I am sure it is not a bent linkage problem as it has happened with two small blocks with carbs that have never been pulled.
What gives? I am told that carb linkage should not be oiled.
What if I put some valve grinding compound on the linkage joints and worked everything a hundred times to wear off burrs?
Please help.
With a cold engine, before starting, the choke is open because of the tang on the fast idle. If you open the throttle, the hangup on the tang goes away the choke spring is supposed to snap the choke shut for starting. That doesn't happen. The choke hangs open because of some linkage problem. I have to lift the air cleaner and manuall close it.
Should the linkage points be oiled?
