i have a 1994 ranger that stalled out on me while driving almost as if it was out of gas but it wasn't. i think there might be water in the gastank. any ideas?
A number of things could cause your problem.
Might be helpful if you'd provde more info, like the engine, mileage on it, where you are on all due past & present scheduled maintenance, any repairs you've made & if you've had any problems recently, or if this problem just suddenly came about. Is this an extended cab model???
If you've been using E-10 fuel, you don't likely have water in the tank, unless you just filled up with some bad gas.
So, check fuses & the power relay to the fuel pump & check the in cabin inertia switch, to make sure it didn't trip, then do a fuel pressure test & use your timing light to check for spark.
174000 miles. i just bought it 2 months ago and it ran perfect up until it brokedown. i can hear the fuelpump hum before it cranks. sprayed some starting fluid in it and it turned over for a quick second but nothing after that
OK, well it sounds like you might have spark & the fuel pump might be running, or at least trying to run. Question is do you have the proper fuel pressure & enough flow????
So, do a KOEO & KOER fuel pressure check at the fuel rail & post the numbers.
Since you don't seem to have, or know the vehicles past maintenance history, maybe the fuel filter is clogged, if so the pressure test might give us a clue.
Most autoparts stores have a pressure gauge & other equiptment & tools for a refundable deposit, in their "Loan-A-Tool" program, so we don't have to buy expensive, not often used equiptmnt, or tools.
