Whats the difference between a truck and van tubro?

I have been reading alot on turbos, and was wondering why some like the van turbo over the stock truck turbo. I had also found one for sale on ebay FORD VAN 7.3 POWERSTROKE STAGE 2 HIGH PERFORMANCE TURBO : eBay Motors (item 220504849431 end time Mar-02-10 21:37:48 PST) Is this a good deal or would I be better to get a Garrett gtp38r?

Thanks,
John

Not a good deal.

That is a stocker with a 1.0 exhaust housing.

Stock unit - .84 A/R
Ebay unit - 1.0 A/R
Van Turbo - 1.15 A/R

You could call clay at Riffraff and get a rebuild kit, wicked wheel turbo wheel and a 1.0 exhaust housing and for $400 have the same thing.

Most people will run the van turbo for the larger exhaust housing (Lower EGT's, Slower turbo spool). I run it b/c I tow ubber heavy.. Great work turbo. I have $400 total in my van turbo w/ a ceramic coating exhaust housing.

I would say shop around and you can find a van turbo for $200. Then rebuild it and add a WW..

The 38R is a much better turbo performance wise. If my truck was play I woulda got that. I am very happy with my van turbo for work and a little play.. The van turbo was also $1100 cheaper..

Any more questions just throw them out!
