i have a 96 ranger that the fuel pump has gone out on. im tryign to figure out the easiest way to access it and replace and also am wondering if i need any special tools......please help me out
I don't have much experience with that year Ranger, but more than likely the fuel lines will have a springlock connections or the duckbill type where you squeeze two small plastic clips together and pull apart. One word of caution on using the spring-lock tools. I've seen people jam the tool in too tight and damage the little fingers on the fittings causing them to no longer seal properly.
Some people prefer draining and dropping the fuel tank to access the pump(disconect fuel lines and sending unit/pump wires, drain tank, disconnect fill/vent hoses, drop tank.) where others prefer removing the bed to get access to the top of the tank. (remove six bed bolts, unplug tailight wiring harness, disconnect fuel tank fill/vent hoses, lift off bed.) I've done it both ways and prefer moving the bed.
