I can smell coolant every time I get out of my Exp but have not been able to find the leak. I have been smelling it for about 3 months now, but have only lost about a gallon or so of coolant. Is there a common problem with these trucks that can cause this? I have had leaks before (not in this truck though) but have never had one that I couldn't track down, and never one that leaked this slowly.
I had a leak like this once and it turned out to be the heater hose connection at the top right rear of the motor. I found it when the coil on number 4 finally got wet enough and shorted out.

That and the other place to look is the bottom of the water pump. Under the pump is a weep hole where coolant can leak past the pump shaft seal and out, it does it mostly just during the first engine warm-up of the day. After that, the bulk of the pressure in the system is gone, then there isn't as much PSI to force the coolant out of the weep hole.
At that milage I would also say water pump also, but there is a hose that runs in the valley under the intake manifold. These have been reported to leak from time to time. It ma be worth a look. The antifreez stays in the valey area.
My guess would be the water pump, but if you still can't find the leak you can always use some dye and a blacklight to pinpoint the leak. I have used it many times and it works great, you can buy the blacklight and special glasses off of Ebay for $15.
