Ok you guys i've read a few articles and i've got an 05 f-250 with the 5.4L in it right now. my problem is i'm reading some of your posts and i'm looking at trading in my f250 for an f150 for better fuel mileage, going with a 5.4L of course. Now my question is what are you getting for mpgs? alot of you seem to only be getting 12 to 13 with the f150 which means i wouldn't be any better off? BTW i'm looking for an 07 f150 or newer
I have an 07 FX4 Super Crew with the 5.4 and I average 12.25 mpg usually. 27 gallon fuel tank. Light comes on with 5 gallons left. When the light goes on, I usually get 270 miles out of it.
'06 FX4 Supercrew here. Anywhere from 14-16mpg in the city and 18-20mpg on the highway. I drive it pretty easy....although this winter gas isn't helping things right now.
Forgot to add, it has 3.73 gears and the 20" wheel option.

I have a 07 XLT 5.4L 2WD and getting 13-14 mpg when fairly empty. 11-12 mph when carring 1000-1500 lbs or towing. It is a work truck but I am quite easy on the gas padal and most of the milage are half highway half city. These no.s are from my edge read out.
I have a 5.4L....but I've also got underdrive pulleys, electric fan and electric water pump to help things out a little. I'm sure it'll get better mileage still in the summer months.
'05 f150 supercab 4x4 with 5.4 and 3.73 gears. I get 13-16mpg on short distance driving and 16-19mpg on long distance. I drive pretty easy and use the cruise alot. If the only reason you want to get rid of your 250 for a 150 is for gas mileage, I don't think the little bit of increase you'd get would be worth it.
I get about 16.5 average back and forth to work in the summer and 14.5-15 in the winter months mostly highway. On trips I get 17.5 to 18 most of the time. Towing I usually get 9.5 to 10 pulling a 20' enclosed trailer with a Mustang in it. I tend to be conservative on the throttle. And I might also add theat I get better fuel economy with my 5.4L E/C F150 4x4 than I did with my 05 F250 E/C 4x4 6.0L PSD except when towing the trailer. The SD got 10.5 to 11.5 pulling the trailer. The diesel also got 15.5 in the summer back and forth to work. The mileage figures are all hand calculated.
Alright that's what i was looking for. Most of my driving to work is on highway i live in town get on the highway and usually run my truck 55 to 60 all the way to work then pull off the exit and right into work. The majority of my problem with my super duty is it seems like no matter what i'm getting 10 to 12 wether it be winter or summer. On a 50 mile trip that's mostly open road with very few hills i'm lucky to get 13 or 14. So thanks for your info. Going to look at a couple 07 f150s in the morning when i get out of work. Hopefully i can talk the dealer into letting me take one for a couple days to figure out some mileage. Done it before wish i woulda done it with the super duty i got now.
Guess I'm in the ballpark then. In the city I haven't figured out the mileage, but I do know that it stinks. I try to not let the rpm's go over 2K and let the truck shift on it's own. Makes for slow going, but oh well.
Did a road trip from tarpon springs to jacksonville a couple months ago and babied it as much as I could and only got 15 to 15.2 on the highway. That's not going over 70mph. Only good thing was, I went there and back on one tank of gas! Didn't expect that at all! 35" tires and 3:73 gears.
It has a ton to do with your driving habits....i can make my 07 get up to 20-22 mpg on the highway when i try....but if i drive normal (speeding alot)....it'll drop to 13-14

Agree, it's all about the right foot.
Similar results w/ bone stock '07/3.73/20", although I very rarely see less than 15. Oddly, more than 2 mpg better than an eactly equipped '05 I had.
07 XLT SCab 8' box Heavy Half. 5.4L with 4.10's, no mods to it other than alloy rims. I got 19mpg best on the drive home when I bought it. Most of my driving is around town, little highway speeds. I average around 15 mpg in town. I am a conservative driver and try to keep it below 2K rpms, that's where it seems to get the best mileage. I also have a 97 SCab 6.5' box, 4.6L 3.55's, no mods. I average around 16-17 mpg around town and 19-20 mpg highway.
I have an 05 F150 supercrew with a 5.4. While driving 55 to 60mph, mine will get around 20plus mpg. The only changes I have done to the truck are Centerline rims, which are much lighter than the stock rims, and Nitrogen in the tires. With the factory rims it would get around 17-18mpg max at 65mph. If the wind is not blowing I will get around 19.2mpg at 65mph. I noticed an increase in the mileage after I put the rims and nitrogen in.
