only have 2nd & 3rd gears
i have a '72 f100 with the straight 6 and column shifter. the shifter will not "pull back" to go into first and reverse. for a couple weeks it would work sometimes not others. my mechanic, trusty guy but not up to date on old trucks says that something is worn out in the column and the options are start taking it apart, find out what is wrong, try to find a new piece, rebuild column. or put in a floor shifter and bypass all that. he said that the cab mounts look in good condition so there is not too much sag, if that helps, and that he did not a have an opinion of which way was better to go. so i thought people on here might be able to give me a bit of advice. i like the idea of the column shifter but the truck is not a restored beauty and if the floor shifter is the cheaper/ easier route to go then so be it.
